My former student, Will, whose mother Sue is the editor of Mumbo Jumbo & Banana Peppers, brought me in a jar of homemade banana peppers this morning!
Went into O&H Bakery yesterday, and one of the two high school girls working the counters picked the wrong time to ask her coworker this question: "What's 8 x 3?" Of course, I had to mention I'm a math teacher of 4th graders and that I work to teach them multiplication and much more. This girl said she had a "brain fart" - it was pretty funny and her face was pretty red. I didn't try to embarass her but think I did. The other girl said she didn't like math in 4th grade - I said I would have tried to change that. The timing of the comments and me walking in the door was perfect!
I recently received this from a former student...he found it in a box of tea and thought of what he had learned in fourth grade. Yes, young man, you got it! He was also proud to know that "happy" should be "happily."
Heard yesterday while tutoring an incoming 3rd grader...I hope you can read my writing. These are comments I hear as a lesson is ongoing. This student is working to learn his multiplication facts, but along the way he learned how to multiply something like 325 x15 =. Kids are amazing! It is blessing to experience learning in front of me.
Mumbo Jumbo is on the move early today on the way to get a mocha...Poblocki Paving mathematically striping a parking lot...stalls are 9' wide x 18' long, parallel and perpendicular, also "use Pythagorean Theorem all the time." Thanks for the info. guys.
